Induction Programme


The students of the department have several reputed doctoral and postdoctaoral fellowships such as UGC-JRF, Rajeev Gandhi National Fellowship, ICSSR fellowship, Maulana Azad Doctoral Fellowship, DST-PURSE Fellowship, DS Kothari Fellowship and others to their credit.

Student's Seminar:

Student's Seminar is an integral part of academic activities of the PG Department of Anthropology and it has a rich tradition. It is primarily managed by the postgraduate students, M.Phil and PhD research scholars of the department. It runs through the voluntary contributions made by the students and research scholars. It organizes various curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the year.

Under academic activities, it organizes seminar presentations by students, research scholar and faculty members of the Department. A weekly seminar is held on every Wednesday, from 3pm to 5pm. Frequently, it also invites guest speakers from outside the department i.e. from other departments in the campus, from other states in the country and sometimes visitors from abroad. It encourages students to write and publish their research articles in in-house or outside journals of academic repute. It holds various activities such as debate competition, art competition, essay and slogan writing etc. In extra-curricular activities, it organizes welcome and farewell ceremonies, study tour, annual function, sports events, Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan and plantation drive etc.

In the academic session 2015-16, the Students’ Seminar has organized 52 seminars, where 38 students/scholar and faculty members from within the department, 8 from different centres/institutes in the country and 6 from abroad have made their presentations. The Students’ Seminar has organized various cultural events and a study tour. Some Research Scholars, especially those who have qualified UGC-NET/JRF have taken the initiative to mentor their juniors to prepare for UGC-NET exam.

Student's Library:

The department has a rich collection of more than 5000 reference books, journals, reports, theses, dissertations reprints etc. available for consultation and ready reference for the students and research scholars.

Training Programme:

The students have been encouraged to obtain hands on tanning on various topics such as Molecular anthropology techniques, archeological techniques and research methodology from various institutes/universities of national importance such as IGRMS. Bhopal, ASI, Kolakata,

NSS & Sports:

Students of the department have regularly participated in various social service activities such as volunteering during Flood, Cyclone and other natural disasters. Some of our students have represented our universities in various forums.

Interaction with Researchers from Outside:

The department has developed a network to facilitate students/interns/ visiting professors from other reputed centres which in turn have provided exposure to our students.

Cultural Activities:

Welcome Ceremony, Farewell Ceremony’ Ganesh Puja and Saraswati Puja, Excursion & Annual Function are the regular activities in the department to promote the cohesive bonds among students.
